Lucas Black and Sarah Drew are putting faith in a Western drama with "Birthright Outlaw," which reveals its trailer at usatoday.com before streaming Friday on Great American Pure Flix.

"Birthright Outlaw" features the impressively bearded "Fast & Furious" franchise star Black, 40, as the frontier pastor Rev. Jeremiah Jacobs, who is married to doting wife Martha Rose (Drew). Their peaceful existence is shattered when their daughter Hope (Olivia Sanabia) is kidnapped. Martha reveals that her notorious criminal father committed the offense, while also divulging her own shocking outlaw past.

"'Birthright Outlaw' is a story about God's transformative love, that no matter what our past is, God still loves us and is there for us," says Black.

In the film directed by Aaron Burns, Black's peace-preaching pastor accepts his wife's desperado days gone by and joins her to fight for their daughter, even taking shooting lessons from the unveiled gunslinger.

"There's a pivotal point that he has to make a decision to stand up and fight for those relationships that mean the most to him, however uncomfortable the situation. He steps out in faith," says Black. "And he has to use lethal force to overcome the evil trying to kill, steal and destroy what means the most to him."

"Birthright Outlaw" is Black's second faith-based Great American Pure Flix role since he left acting full time in Hollywood and moved with his family to rural Georgia, where he homeschools his three children. Black agreed to have his popular "NCIS: New Orleans" character Christopher LaSalle killed off in 2019 after five seasons to make the life-changing relocation.

But the faith and family message in 2022's fatherhood drama "Legacy Peak" and "Birthright Outlaw" drew him back. Black already had the required rugged look.

"I had the beard and the hair when I read the script, and I called the director to ask what kind of look we were going for here," says Black. "He told me, 'Don't cut or shave anything.' So that's the real deal right there."

Black has filmed another faith drama, "Unsung Hero," which will be released in the spring.

"I didn't have an agent at the time, I still don't have an agent," says Black. "But God kind of placed me in this arena and orchestrated it all. Now it will be three films in a row that promote family and redemptive stories."
