Watch Lady Gaga Cover Bowie on First Night of Vegas Residency

She performed “I’m Afraid of Americans” and gave “Shallow” its live debut

Last night, Lady Gaga launched her residency at MGM’s Park Theater in Las Vegas. During the set, she performed a couple of live debuts: a cover of David Bowie’s “I’m Afraid of Americans” and “Shallow,” the breakout song from A Star Is Born. (She sang both her own and Bradley Cooper’s verses.) Watch footage below.

Transitioning into the Bowie cover (around 2:40 in the first video), she changed a “Government Hooker” lyric to reference the current president: “John F. Kennedy/I'll make you squeal, baby/Donald Trump... if you pay me.” The residency, titled Enigma, is due to span two years.
