Kate Hudson is no stranger to late-night TV, but the actress and singer made her late-night debut as a musician on The Tonight Show this week. Hudson appeared to perform her single “Gonna Find Out” alongside a live band and two backup singers.

“Gonna Find Out” comes off Hudson’s debut LP, Glorious, out May 17. She explained of the album, “This is realer to me than anything I’ve done in my entire life. It was always this, I just needed to get to a place where I was ready … and the songs got to the core of who I am.”

Hudson sat down with host Jimmy Fallon to discuss her musical career, confirming she plans to tour in support of the album. “It was my first love,” she explained of music. “I’ve been writing music my whole life, and I just thought it was something I’d only have for myself. Until Covid, when I was like, ‘I’ll regret not putting it out in the world.’ So I did.”

The actress also spoke about her upcoming untitled comedy series, which she is making with Mindy Kaling. “I’m having so much fun right now,” Hudson told Fallon of the show, centered on the world of basketball. “I’m having the time of my life.”

Later on the late-night show, Hudson joined Fallon, Chrissy Teigen, and John Legend for a game of “Catchphrase.”

Hudson worked with Johan Carlsson, Danny Fujikawa, and Linda Perry on Glorious, and took inspiration from Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Madonna, and Joni Mitchell when creating the record. She has shared several songs so far, including singles “Talk About Love” and “Live Forever.” The singer will perform at The Bellweather in Los Angeles on May 18.
