Watch Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker in Trailer for Notorious B.I.G. Movie City of Lies

Set in the aftermath of Biggie’s murder in 1997

In 2016, it was reported that Johnny Depp had signed on for Labyrinth, a film following the investigation into the Notorious B.I.G.’s shooting death in 1997. Today, the first trailer for that movie—now titled City of Lies—has arrived. Depp plays detective Russell Poole, who teams up with reporter Jack Jackson (Forest Whitaker) to try and crack the case.

Directed by Brad Furman, the new film is based on Randall Sullivan’s novel LAbyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records' Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal. It arrives in theaters September 7.
