NASA and SpaceX on Saturday successfully launched the Elon Musk-led company’s Falcon 9 rocket carrying two NASA astronauts aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft in a picture-perfect liftoff this afternoon from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL.
The launch was postponed Wednesday due to weather concerns but saw the final weather system clear just ahead of its second try today.

The International Space Station is the next stop for the Crew Dragon and its two NASA astronauts, Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley, which after its 17-hour ride will rendezvous with the International Space Station at about 10:30 AM ET/7:30 AM PT on Sunday.

Saturday’s launch of the Demo-2 mission to the space station marked the first U.S. crewed spaceflight to depart from American soil since the 2011 end of NASA’s Space Shuttle program. It will is the first private, commercially built manned spaceflight. (The Dragon spacecraft is designed to eventually carry private passengers into orbit, the ISS or beyond).
