Thibodaux native Michael Smith Boyd is competing in HGTV's Rock the Block Monday night at 8 p.m.

An Interior Designer by trade and Television Host by practice, Boyd is the host of "Luxe For Less," and he and his co-star Anthony Elle are competing in Season Four of Rock the Block. The show pits them against six other HGTV stars to see which team of two can add the most value to a home before the end of the season. Boyd described it as, "basically the Olympics of HGTV."

The winners get to hold bragging rights at the channel known as "owning the block." It airs on both HGTV and DiscoveryPlus, and is currently on episode 3 of 6.

"Honestly, it's a really fantastic competition that I did things that I never expected that I would, like for instance in the first episode I'm in a hot air balloon," Boyd said. "I never thought I'd ever have any reason to be 500 feet off the ground, in a basket, but I had a great time, and it really expanded my point of view about design."

This season Landmark Homes provided the four houses nestled in a golfing community in Northern Colorado which were appraised at $1.9 million at the start. Contestants then have to add as much value as they can to the home before the season ends.

Each episode reveals a portion of the home which teams have worked on. Even if a team didn't win any of the weekly challenges the team who added the most value overall to the home wins the whole show, explained Boyd.

"The stakes are crazy though… We don't actually get to see what our teammates did week to week until the very last episode when the winner is announced," he said. Among HGTV stars winning this show is a big deal, "It's like king of the network for the entire year."

Asked what that would mean for him if he won, Boyd laughed, "Hopefully it would guarantee one more season of my own show."

Boyd is the owner and operator of SMITHBOYD INTERIORS. He began the company in 2006 solo, but it has grown to eight. The company specializes in luxury residential and commercial projects across the U.S., and has had its work featured in national publications such as Traditional Home, Elle Décor, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful and Vogue.

His show "Luxe for Less," was placed on hold because of holidays, but speaking by phone he could only very recently announce the show was returning in April.

"I can only be ambiguous about that, legitimately, I just got the green light to tell people that we are re-airing in April," he said. He could not give an exact date or time for the show returning, "We just shot some new things to promo the show coming back."

Boyd's co-star Anthony Elle is a fashion designer and was the Season 6 winner of Project Runway All Stars. Elle is from Atlanta, and since winning Project Runway, his work has been featured in shows on VH1 and Netflix. He's dressed celebrities from both film and television including Queen Latifah, Heidi Klum, Paula Patton, LaLa Anthony, Letoya Luckett, and Billy Porter.
