H.E.R. helped open tonight’s Super Bowl 2021 broadcast, where she performed “America the Beautiful” prior to the beginning of the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Her performance, which preceded Jazmine Sullivan and Eric Church singing the National Anthem, was punctuated by a huge guitar solo. Watch it happen below.

Prior to tonight’s game, H.E.R. told Entertainment Tonight that she was looking forward to the performance. “It’s a huge stage and it doesn’t get any bigger, you know? But I think the goal, for me, is to make [the song] my own,” she said. “I’m a huge fan of the different versions of ‘America the Beautiful,’ but I really want to bring some different elements in there... make it H.E.R.”

H.E.R. was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her song “Fight for You,” which appears in the new Shaka King film Judas and the Black Messiah.
