Watch Grand Theft Auto 6 now: Rockstar Games releases trailer Monday night

After 10 long years of waiting, anticipating and speculating on Rockstar Games' next Grand Theft Auto game, the first trailer for the next installment of the AAA series is finally here as the franchise nears its 25th anniversary.

Rockstar Games announced it would release the first trailer for GTA 6 on Tuesday. However, GTA fans had a pleasant surprise as Rockstar released the trailer early on Monday night.

In the new GTA 6 trailer, it's teased that the full game will come out in 2025.

In an X post on Dec. 1, Rockstar Games posted a photo of the trailer announcement. Prior to this, the gaming company thanked players worldwide for their support as it reaches its 25th anniversary this month.

In the anniversary announcement on Nov. 8, Rockstar Games President Sam Houser announced the trailer's debut date and thanked fans for holding out for the next installment.

"Without you, none of this would be possible, and we are so grateful to all of you for sharing this journey with us," Houser said.

As of Monday morning, more than 41,500 people were actively waiting for Rockstar's GTA 6 trailer on YouTube.

Why did Rockstar Games release the GTA 6 trailer early?

Rockstar put out a statement on X stating that the trailer was leaked. In response, the company decided to release its own trailer to watch on its YouTube channel.

The release of comes less than 16 hours before the initial launch time at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

When did GTA 5 release?

Grand Theft Auto V announced on Oct. 25, 2011 and was released on Sept. 17, 2013 for PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.

Later, the game added Grand Theft Auto Online, a separate entity from the campaign that allowed players to customize personal characters and join Los Santos with 29 other players in a free-roam public lobby.

In 2014, the game was re-released for PlayStation 4, Windows and Xbox One. In 2022, the game was "Expanded & Enhanced" for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
