Feb. 12 (UPI) -- 20th Century Studios is giving a glimpse of the new film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

The studio shared a trailer for the sci-fi action movie Sunday during Super Bowl LVIII.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a sequel to War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) and the fourth film in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise featuring Andy Serkis as the chimpanzee Caesar.

The new movie takes place "several generations in the future following Caesar's reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows."

"As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike," an official synopsis reads.

Kevin Durand voices the ape leader Proximus Caesar, with Owen Teague as Noa, a heroic chimp, and Freya Allan as Nova, a young feral woman.

Peter Macon and William H. Macy also star.

The trailer shows Noa (Teague) defy Proximus (Durand) and befriend Nova (Allan).

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is written by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison, and directed by Wes Ball. The film opens in theaters May 10.

Allan is known for playing Ciri on the Netflix series The Witcher.
