Watch the First Trailer for Martin Scorsese’s ‘Silence’

The first official look at Martin Scorsese’s long-awaited “Silence” debuted online Tuesday night. The religious drama, starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson, opens Dec. 23.

Paramount Pictures attached the teaser to Robert Zemeckis’ “Allied,” which opened late Tuesday.

Based on a novel by Japanese author Shusaku Endo, “Silence” tells the story of two Portuguese Jesuit priests, played by Driver and Garfield, who must contend with various forms of persecution, including torture, while traveling through Japan to proselytize locals and track down their mentor, played by Neeson.
