It’s a big weekend on the campaign trail. The SAG Awards take place on Saturday, and both the Independent Spirits Awards and Producers Guild Awards are on Sunday. After that, the state of the Oscar race will be clearer than ever. Right on time, one of this year’s most-nominated films is hitting digital platforms. It’s joined by a handful of contenders past and present.

The contender to watch this week: “The Zone of Interest

Jonathan Glazer‘s Best Picture-nominated Holocaust drama should be experienced in a theater, where the harrowing, immersive sound design stands out. It’s still playing in select venues across the country, having grossed nearly $7 million domestically — an impressive figure for an arty indie with difficult subject matter. But you can also see it at home now: The Best International Feature Film front-runner is available to purchase on VOD for $19.99. The film, which depicts a Nazi couple (Christian Friedel and Sandra Hüller) living next door to Auschwitz, recently won three BAFTAs and will compete for Best International Film at the Indie Spirits.

Other contenders:

  • All of Us Strangers“: Andrew Haigh‘s ghostly British romance starring Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal has a shot at three Independent Spirit Awards this weekend, including Best Feature. The movie’s tear-jerking queer melodrama and spectral ending proved a bit too out there for the Oscars, though it did collect six BAFTA nominations and a National Board of Review citation. “Strangers” is streaming on Hulu.

  • Priscilla“: Another Oscar also-ran, Sofia Coppola‘s biopic about Priscilla Presley‘s relationship with Elvis is newly available on Max. Its Golden Globe-nominated star, Cailee Spaeny, is on the verge of another major career breakthrough: In April, she’ll appear opposite Kirsten Dunst (who had recommended her to Coppola in the first place) in Alex Garland‘s dystopian thriller “Civil War.”

  • “The Promised Land”: Mads Mikkelsen reteamed with “A Royal Affair” director Nikolaj Arcel for this 18th-century Danish epic that was shortlisted for Best International Feature Film. It’s available on VOD.

  • Orlando, My Political Biography“: Some critics hoped Paul B. Preciado‘s impressionistic documentary inspired by the Virginia Woolf novel of the same name would crack the Oscar lineup, but no such luck. It is newly streaming on The Criterion Channel, though.

  • Mean Girls“: Could this musical adaptation of the hit movie show up in next year’s Best Original Song race? One of its new numbers is performed and co-written by Megan Thee Stallion, which could make for a fun telecast performance. The movie is available to purchase or rent on VOD.

  • Nomadland” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once“: These recent Best Picture winners are now streaming on Hulu and Netflix, respectively.

  • Marcel the Shell with Shoes On“: Nominated for Best Animated Feature last year, this charming stop-motion dramedy starring Jenny Slate‘s quirky talking shell hits Netflix on Sunday.
