It got ugly early and then often in a 6-1 loss for the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series Saturday night.

That puts the Phillies up 3-2 in the best-of-seven series. Not great, if you’re a Diamondbacks fan.

But professional sports is as much a TV show as anything else, which means there is another episode coming up soon. And TBS, the network broadcasting the NLCS (Fox is carrying the American League Championship Series and the eventual World Series), began making plans accordingly.

“The loudest fans in baseball at Citizens Bank Park — and you know they will be ready,” Brian Anderson, who does play by play for TBS, said.

You know your team is in trouble when they start setting up the next game in the eighth inning.

When do the Diamondbacks play again?

Game 6 of the NLCS is scheduled for 2:07 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, on TBS at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Anderson will handle play-by-play; Jeff Francoeur and Ron Darling will serve as analysts.

And if you are wondering what Arizona is up against, the TBS postgame show set the table.

“The scale has been tipped in favor of the Phillies,” Lauren Shehadi, who hosts the TBS pregame and postgame show, said after Game 5.

No doubt.

Jimmy Rollins, who played for the Phillies and makes no attempt to disguise his rooting interest (in a way that is somehow more charming than annoying; go figure), said, “They did everything they needed to do to come away with the win and give themselves a chance to close out at home.”

Ah, about home for the Phillies.

“They’re 6-0 at the Bank,” Shehadi said. “It is the definition of home-field advantage.”

Oof.

In case you didn’t get the point, Curtis Granderson, who played 16 seasons in the big leagues, put a nice little bow on it.

“It’s going to be almost impossible to try to get two (wins) in Philly.”

And yet. If the Diamondbacks have proven anything this postseason, it’s that they can surprise you. This is not to say they will win Game 6. It is indeed a tall order. But it’s certainly worth tuning in for.

The Base Cam rules

Let’s pause here for a little Valentine to the Base Cam. The bases have little cameras inside them; it gives a great view of baserunners, attempts to tag them out, etc. It really is a unique perspective, and it is surprisingly effective.

Less compelling is the constant salesmanship — “brought to you by T-Mobile” every time they use it. But it’s still a great tool for showing close plays and a different point of view.

Breaking news: It's hot in Phoenix

The weather report from Phoenix continues.

Yes, people living in Arizona know that it is blazing hot here, even as people not at the game were trekking out to early Halloween parties.

TBS showed the standard overhead shot of Chase Field in downtown Phoenix. “What a beautiful sunset — down to 96 degrees,” Anderson said, as the rest of the crew laughed. The air-conditioning inside was blasting, he noted.

In actual baseball matters, the roof was closed at Chase Field, which you would think is kind of weird this late in the year. But we’ve gotten used to the unusual when it comes to heat.

TBS play-by-play announcer Brian Anderson goes Superman

Best attempt at a funny line that went south in a hurry: Anderson, talking about Arizona starter Zac Gallen, who wears glasses when he pitches.

“Gallen is kind of a reverse Clark Kent — when those glasses go on he becomes Superman for the Diamondbacks.”

By this line of reasoning, then, the Phillies were his Kryptonite, scoring two runs in the first inning and never looking back.

Ugh. Sorry.

Brandon Marsh hair tips. Why?

Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh has the ugliest hair in the history of hair, with an untamed beard framed by shaggy locks that give him the look of, with apologies, a drowned rat. Seriously — his hair is always wet. The broadcast crew talks about it.

And in the pregame show we saw how he does it — basically runs a soaking-wet towel through his hair. But during an interview beforehand, he was wearing a sock hat. Why, when it’s 100 degrees outside? “You gotta treat it like it’s home,” he said.

And the Phillies did.
