Claire Foy Says Lisbeth Salander Isn’t ‘Poster Girl’ for #MeToo – Because Abuse Has ‘Always Been There’

Claire Foy has traded her royal duds for a decidedly more goth look in the explosive new trailer for “”The Girl in the Spider’s Web.”

“The Crown” star’s take on tattooed goth hacker Lisbeth Salander is decidedly edgier than her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II — complete with some high-voltage action and what looks like a romantic same-sex kiss late in the clip. (Watch below.)

“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” is the latest film to be adapted from the book series written by Stieg Larsson and is first to hit the big screen since David Fincher’s 2011 version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” which starred Rooney Mara as Salander and Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist.

Noomi Rapace also previously played Salander in the Swedish adaptation of Larsson’s Millennium series.

In addition to “The Crown” actress, “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” stars Lakeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks, Stephen Merchant, Claes Bang, Christopher Convery, Synnøve Macody Lund and Vicky Krieps.

“Spider’s Web” is based on the novel of the same name by David Lagercrantz, who continued Lisbeth’s adventures after the 2004 death of Larsson.

Fede Alvarez is directing; the screenplay adaptation was written by Steven Knight, and Fede Alvarez and Jay Basu.

“The Girl in the Spider’s Web” will be released in theaters on Nov. 9 via Sony/MGM.
