Around the Table with 'Cobra Kai'
Mary Mouser, William Zabka, Jacob Bertrand, Ralph Macchio, Xolo Maridueña, Courtney Henggeler and Peyton List sit down to talk about their Netflix series, 'Cobra Kai'.
Cobra Kai fans have waited what seems like an eternity for season 3 and it'll be all worth it when Netflix drops all 10 episodes on Friday.
Ahead of the show's Jan. 1 premiere, stars Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Peyton List, and Courtney Henggeler dished on all the juicy drama ahead during EW's Around the Table virtual chat.
In the season 2 finale, mayhem broke out at West Valley High School as students from Miyagi-Do Karate and Cobra Kai brought the streets into the halls in a battle royale. After all was said and done, feelings were hurt, friendships were tested, and Miguel (Maridueña) was left seriously injured and in a coma.
"First and foremost, if Miguel gets out of this coma there's going to be a lot of questions he's going to have," Maridueña teases. "I think the thing that means most to him, at that point, is his sensei. I think he instilled a lot of trust into Johnny [Zabka] and there might be a little bit of resentment there. [Miguel] took [Johnny's] advice and it blew up in his face. In season 3, there's a lot of work that needs to be done for Miguel personally before he can reconcile with Johnny again."

Zabka's Johnny Lawrence will be pulled in many directions this season and where he ends up is one of the most shocking moments of the series.
"We spend a lot of time in his feelings," Zabka explains. "The end of season 2 is a train wreck for all of us and there's a lot of wounds that need healing. We start season 3 with Johnny licking his wounds and feeling responsible for all of this. His son is off somewhere and his top student is in the hospital and he lost the love of his life and his dojo's been stolen and he wishes he hadn't started the whole thing. He feels responsible but he also has some righteous anger at his old sensei Kreese [Martin Kove] who stole his dojo out, he kidnapped and hijacked his dojo and his kids, so he's got that engine going inside of him. He's got some work to do and he's not really allowed to see Miguel because of Carmen's [Vanessa Rubio] wishes. But he's going to find a way to get to him, their bond is tight."
That epic season 2 fight may be in the past, but the young karate students are still trying to find their way. Samantha (Mary Mouser) and Tory (Peyton List) are still very much on opposing sides with no treaty in sight. Where do they belong and with who are very much open ended questions that seep into the new season.

"Samantha's relationship with boys has been funny to me, all the way through. It's been a lot of fun," Mouser says while laughing. "For season 1 Samantha, boys were a whole new idea and that was fun in and of itself. Specifically with Miguel, when she finally connected with him it was at a point in her life when she was looking for somewhere to belong. She found him and he made her feel like she fit in with him. By season 2, there's all this confusion, frustration, and pain. Her way of coping with that is karate. By the end of season 2, her way of coping becomes pain and confusion and all kinds of things."
Amid all the chaos, Samantha found she also fit in with Johnny's son Robby (Tanner Buchanan) and Miguel also fit well with Tory leading to trouble between the ladies that carries into the new season.
"Nope," List responded when asked if Samantha and Tory may become friends after all has been said and done. "I don't think so! I've been thinking about this all day and I really don't think so. I think there's just too much that's happened. Given Johnny and Daniel they had 30 years and they got back together so maybe there's hope. Mary and I have been dreaming up some scenarios but I just don't see it happening especially seeing where they are now."
