Watch Bill Callahan and Yo La Tengo Cover Carly Simon’s “Touched by the Sun”

At YLT’s 8 Nights of Hanukkah concert series

Bill Callahan joined Yo La Tengo onstage at New York’s Bowery Ballroom last night to perform a cover of Carly Simon’s “Touched by the Sun.” The song originally appeared on Simon’s 1994 LP Letters Never Sent. Watch a clip of that below.

The concert marked night 5 of Yo La Tengo’s 8 Nights of Hanukkah, a series of live shows running from December 2-9 at Bowery Ballroom. A long-standing Yo La Tengo tradition, 8 Nights of Hanukkah was reinstated in 2017. Prior to that, the band took a five-year hiatus from the event due to the closing of Maxwell’s, the Hoboken, New Jersey venue that had been the location of the performances for over a decade. Last year, special guests such as Bob Odenkirk, Jeff Tweedy, and Todd Barry made surprise appearances.

Yo La Tengo’s latest LP There’s a Riot Going On arrived in March. Bill Callahan’s last studio album was 2013’s Dream River. More recently Callahan released Live at Third Man Records. Back in 2016, Yo La Tengo and Bill Callahan performed at a farewell concert for the iconic record store Other Music.
