Watch Beyoncé’s New Video for The Lion King Song “Spirit”

The singer calls the soundtrack “a love letter to Africa”

Beyoncé has released the video for “Spirit,” the lead single from the 14-song collection The Lion King: The Gift. The singer also executive produced the project—due out July 19—which is a supplement to the official soundtrack for The Lion King.

The video premiered as part of a one-hour primetime special on ABC, “The Lion King: Can You Feel The Love Tonight with Robin Roberts.” “This soundtrack is a love letter to Africa,” she told ABC News, “and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it.” Interspersed with scenes from the film are various set pieces featuring Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, and a squadron of dancers. Watch it below.

The Lion King: The Gift features several new Beyoncé songs as well as contributions from Kendrick Lamar, JAY-Z, Childish Gambino, 070 Shake, Tierra Whack, Pharrell, and JAY and Bey’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter.

Beyoncé voices Nala in the new The Lion King. The cast also includes Donald Glover (as Simba), John Oliver (as Zazu), Eric André (as Azizi, one of the hyenas), Seth Rogen (as Pumbaa), and more. The film hits U.S. theaters on July 19.
