Bummed that you don’t live in a Barbie Dreamhouse? Well, at least you can soon have a Barbie dream in your house. That’s because Greta Gerwig’s record-breaking blockbuster Barbie is heading to digital next month. Check out all the details of how you’ll be able to beam it and its wonderful world of pink directly into your living room below.

When Will I Be Able to Stream Barbie?

Barbie will become available for digital purchase on September 5th.

At that time, the film will be available to purchase on several platforms, including Prime Video, Google Play, Apple TV, and Vudu. Currently, you can pre-order the movie through Prime Video for $19.99.

As for when Barbie will become available on streaming services, that’s anyone’s guess. However, we do know it will arrive on the Warner Bros. Discovery platform Max, since the film was distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Check back here for updates.

How Can I Stream Barbie for Free?

The exact streaming release date for Barbie hasn’t been announced yet. However, once the film does become available for on-demand streaming, it will be on Max. Subscriptions for Max start at $9.99 a month.

What is Barbie About?

Gerwig’s Barbie follows Barbie (played by Margot Robbie) as she leaves Barbieland for the first time and comes to our “real world.” Once here, she and Ken (Ryan Gosling) learn about the struggles of reality, though Ken begins to feel empowered for the first time in his life due to his discovery of our world’s patriarchy. Returning to Barbieland, he institutes male-led rule and begins oppressing the Barbies. Meanwhile, as Barbie learns about feminism, beauty standards, the history of Mattel, and so much more, she teams up with her real-world owners and sets out to make amends with Ken, restoring order.

Since debuting last month, the film has been praised by fans and critics alike for its creative exploration of everything from its titular doll to gender dynamics, power, identity, and more. In her review, Consequence Senior Entertainment Editor Liz Shannon Miller called it “one of the year’s most life-affirming films.” Going further, she explained that “it ends up becoming such a lovely tribute to being human and doing your best with that, that it makes you feel grateful for the air in your lungs, and these imperfect lives we all live.” Read her full review.

Where Can I Stream Greta Gerwig’s Other Films?

Beyond setting the theme for pop culture in Summer 2023, Barbie has also broken a number of records. Since its release last month, it’s become the highest-grossing female-directed film of all time, among other accomplishments.

So, you might want to dive into Gerwig’s filmography, and thankfully, that’s not too hard to do. Frances Ha, the first film she co-wrote with her now-partner Noah Baumbach, is currently streaming on Netflix. Her break-out film — and the second feature-length she directed — Lady Bird is available on Paramount+. Her most recent film before Barbie, 2019’s Little Women, is available to Starz subscribers.
