The pair's characters fall in love in a spot-on tribute to the Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet classic.

Ariana Grande is leaning even further into the movie that shares a name with her new album, Eternal Sunshine.

The music video for "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)" pays homage to the 2004 Michel Gondry–directed, Charlie Kaufman–penned film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

In it, Grande goes by the name Peaches, a reference to Kate Winslet's similarly fruit-inspired Eternal Sunshine character, Clementine. The story follows her as she undergoes a procedure to remove unwanted memories, as Jim Carrey and Winslet do in the movie.

When her memories aren't being stripped away, Grande engages in a joyful relationship with Evan Peters in scenes recreated from the sci-fi film, including one in which Winslet and Carrey lie on a frozen pond stargazing and another of the couple under blankets together.

Grande's latest album shares a thematic heart with the acclaimed film, as she excavates past relationships, including her marriage to her ex-husband, Dalton Gomez.

It's not surprising that she has found a kindred spirit in the Carrey classic, considering she's been very vocal about her love of the actor. Her first screenname was JimCarreyFan42, Pitchfork reported, and she also appeared in Gondry's underappreciated and short-lived Showtime comedy Kidding, which starred Carrey.

Grande's video, directed by Christian Breslauer, ends with Peaches and Peters' character going through with the memory-wiping procedure and then passing each other under a cherry blossom tree with their new partners, seemingly unaware that they'd ever met.

Grande's new album, Eternal Sunshine, is out today.
