AJ Tracey’s love of basketball is no secret by now.

It was a central theme on the UK rapper’s Flu Game project last year, which made heavy and repeated references to Michael Jordan, the Bulls, and the infamous Game 5 of the 1997 NBA finals when Jordan powered through a nasty bout of food poisoning to lead the team to victory against the Utah Jazz.

Clearly enamoured with the sport, AJ has been working closely with the NBA to help celebrate the institution’s 75th anniversary season this year and grow the NBA’s fanbase here in the UK. To kick things off, AJT will perform an exclusive set live—tonight—from a basketball court floating down the River Thames.

You can watch the set here as AJT glides down the Thames, from Woolwich over to The Houses of Parliament.

Speaking on his involvement, AJ Tracey says: “It’s incredible getting NBA fans, like myself, to come together and celebrate the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Season this year. Moments like this really put London’s love of the game on the map, and with the ongoing support from Hennessy, I’m excited to see the impact it has on basketball in the UK and the communities it’s giving back to.”

This first-of-its-kind performance kicks off a whole weekend of celebrations. Tomorrow (June 10), the floating court will play host to a star-studded tournament in London’s Got Game (where Complex is putting forward a team) featuring big names like D Double E, P Money, BackRoad Gee and more. Hosted by Ovie Soko and Emerald Rose Lewis, you’ll be able catch some exclusive BTS footage from our socials.

Then, on Saturday (June 11), the floating court will be open to the public for a free event that will see basketball fans (18+) take part in free-throw challenges, learn some trick shots, and enjoy some complementary Hennessy cocktails, street food and DJs. Tickets for Saturday are available here.

The 2022 NBA Finals continue Thursday, June 9, when the Boston Celtics host the Golden State Warriors for Game 3, live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Arena at 1:45 a.m. GMT.  The best-of-seven series is currently tied 1-1.
