Warrior Nun season 3 is officially happening!

Fans of the YA Netflix drama were devastated to learn that Netflix had opted not to renew the series after the second season landed in late 2022.

The news was received extremely poorly, prompting fans to mobilize and repeatedly call on the streamer to bring the series back after its cliffhanger ending, even making petitions calling for its return.

The good news is that it's coming back, but Warrior Nun season 3 the beloved series will look a little different from what fans might've expected. Rather than a third series, the show is being continued in the form of a trilogy of feature-length movies.

Here's what we know so far...

Warrior Nun season 3 release date

As of our latest update, we don't have a release date for Warrior Nun season 3, despite now knowing what we should expect in terms of content.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Netflix will not be moving forward with a third season, so we're waiting to find out where the movies will land when they arrive.

What will happen in Warrior Nun season 3?

At the time of writing, we know very little about what Warrior Nun season 3 could look like, but we do know that there are three feature-length specials to look forward to where they'll be continuing the story.

A few days after confirming the show's return, Simon Barry tweeted a link to a website called WarriorNunSaved.com. When the countdown ended, a video was posted that confirms the exciting news.

Executive producer Dean English told fans: “I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three.

"It’s because of you and your incredible energy that we keep pushing forward to make these stories. You guys really make it all worthwhile. So thank you so much for your continued support." English was unable to confirm specific details about the new trilogy, though.

What we do know is that former showrunner Simon Barry is not actually part of the creative team for the new specials; on October 4, he tweeted: "FYI - I have no idea what's being announced tomorrow. I am not part of the team producing the movies, and have no deal in place for any writing or directing services'. Other ex-Warrior Nun creatives chimed in, too, with director David Hayter and writer Amy Berg confirming they're not involved, either.

The latest announcement on WarriorNunSaved.com was not, as fans might have hoped, a big info dump about the new season. Instead, it revealed a contest for a redesign of The Halo, overseen by Ben Dunn, the creator of the Warrior Nun Areala comic. It's difficult to predict who's going to star in the third series at the moment, but our best guess is that Alba Baptista will almost certainly return to play Ava Silva if the show's going to return. Along with Baptista, it seems a safe bet that other supporting stars like Lorena Andrea (Sister Lilith) and Tristan Ulloa (Father Vincent) could be back, too.

The one thing we know for sure is that Toya Turner won't be making a comeback for the third season. Turner had to step away from the series, meaning her character, Shotgun Mary, did not return for the second season. And since Simon Barry told Screen Rant that there were 'no plans' to recast Mary for season 2, we'd bet she won't be back, especially since it seemed she had died at the hands of Adriel's forces.

Is there a Warrior Nun season 3 trailer?

Not yet, and we doubt we'll be seeing one for a while.
