‘Warrior’ Canceled (Again) at Max

The revival of Warrior at Max turned out to be short-lived: The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer has canceled the show after its first season as a Max original and third overall.
That said, the series — based on writings by Bruce Lee and set in 19th century San Francisco — will potentially get in front of more viewers beginning in February 2024, as all three seasons will stream on Netflix. Warrior will continue to be available on Max as well, similar to other non-exclusive streaming licensing deals WBD has made with Netflix for HBO shows like Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers and Ballers.

Warrior began life as a Cinemax original series, premiering in 2019 to strong reviews. It was renewed for a second season that aired in fall 2020 — but by that time, Cinemax had wound down its originals business. The streamer then known as HBO Max revived it for a third season in April 2021; that run premiered in June, and what’s now the final episode debuted in August.
Created by Jonathan Tropper (Cinemax’s Banshee, Apple TV+’s forthcoming Your Friends and Neighbors), Warrior stars Andrew Koji as Ah Sahm, a Chinese martial arts expert who travels to 1870s San Francisco in search of his sister (Dianne Doan) and is conscripted into the city’s Tong Wars.
The season three cast also includes Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Kieran Bew, Dean Jagger, Tom Weston-Jones, Hoon Lee, Langley Kirkwood, Perry Yung, Joe Taslim, Dustin Nguyen, Miranda Raison, Chen Tang, Chelsea Muirhead, Mark Dacascos and Adam Rayner.
Tropper executive produces with Justin Lin, Danielle Woodrow and Andrew Schneider of Perfect Storm Entertainment; Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee; and Brad Kane and Richard Sharkey.
