Warren Jeffs’ Nephew Claims He Was ‘Brainwashed’ In The FLDS

Ian says that he has not seen or heard from his dad, mom and sisters in nine years, when he says he was kicked out of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Are you involved in a story that has made the headlines?

“When I was 15 years old, I got kicked out of the community because I was talking with girls and sneaking out of the house to hang out with unapproved friends,” Ian says. “At that point, my dad drove me up to Salt Lake and signed power of attorney rights over to a host family, said goodbye, and that was it. Essentially, my dad threw me away. It was devastating for me.”

The young man says his father, a head patriarch of the church, is the older brother of Warren Jeffs who led the FLDS until a decade ago when he was arrested and sentenced to life in prison.

“I feel like Warren saw younger men as a threat and potential competition for wives,” says Ian, about the church which allegedly supports polygamy. “When I was in the FLDS, they went to extreme lengths to brainwash me. Warren told me that I was never good enough and if I didn’t follow what he said, I would burn in eternal misery without my family.”

In the video above, Ian breaks down describing the last conversation he had with his mother. And, hear what his life is like today.

On Tuesday’s episode of Dr. Phil, hear from a young woman who also escaped the FLDS. Check here to see where you can watch.
