Warren Berlinger, actor in 'Happy Days,' 'Cannonball Run' and 'Blue Denim,' dead at 83

Actor Warren Berlinger, known for his roles on "Happy Days" and other television shows and movies, died Wednesday at 83, his daughter Elizabeth confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter and People.

Berlinger, who died at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, California, played a variety of characters on the popular sitcom from 1975 to 1981, including Dr. Logan, Mr. Vanburen, Army Sgt. Betchler, DJ Charlie The Prince and more.

"His favorite role on stage was J. Pierrepont in 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,' " Elizabeth told People, "but I don't know anyone who succeeded in life more than my dad. Everyone who met him loved him, everyone."

His TV credits also include "The Joey Bishop Show," "Too Close for Comfort," "Bracken's World" and "Operation Petticoat."

He also made appearances on "The Dukes of Hazzard," "Charlie's Angels" and "The Love Boat." His most recent acting credit was in 2016 for the series "Grace and Frankie."

Berlinger was also a star of the big screen. One of his best known movie roles was Shakey Finch in 1981's "The Cannonball Run." He also starred in 1973's "The Long Goodbye" and 1992's "Hero."

One of his earliest acting credits was on the 1959 film version of "Blue Denim," where he played Ernie. He also starred in the Broadway production, for which he received a Theatre World award in 1958.

The Brooklyn-born actor also acted in the original 1946 Broadway production of "Annie Get Your Gun" with Ethel Merman and Ray Middleton.

In 1960, Berlinger married actress Betty Lou Keim, who starred in 1956's "These Wilder Years" and 1957's "The Wayward Bus" among others. They had four children together before she died in 2010.

Both Berlinger and Keim starred in 1956's "Teenage Rebel."

Berlinger was remember on social media by "Happy Days" co-star Henry Winkler.

"I saw COME BLOW YOUR HORN and Warren was just wonderful ..then he came and guest starred on HAPPY DAYS," he tweeted. "I am so glad I got to know you ...RIP Warren"

Berlinger's cause of death is unclear.
