Netflix Unveils First Look at Anime Series ‘Yasuke’ (TV News Roundup)

Netflix released a teaser for its new original anime series “Yasuke,” premiering April 29.

Set in war-torn feudal Japan, Yasuke (LaKeith Stanfield) struggles to maintain a peaceful existence and is put to the test when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo. Reconciling with his own violent past, he must transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords. In addition to Stanfield, director LeSean Thomas serves as executive producer, with music by Flying Lotus.

Lifetime announced its first annual “Summer of Secrets,” featuring six new original movies inspired by true stories that will premiere on Lifetime throughout the month of June. Premiering June 5, “Gone Mom,” which features Annabeth Gish and Warren Christie and tells the story of a wealthy Connecticut mother who mysteriously vanished in 2019, was written by Gregory Small and Richard Blaney, directed by Gail Harvey and executive produced by Dan Abrams, Ilene Kahn Power and Rachel Stockman. “Soccer Mom Madam,” out June 6, follows a suburban mom who lives a secret double life running a high-end New York escort service and stars Jana Kramer and is produced by Front Street Productions with executive producers Orly Adelson and Jon Eskenas. Anwen O’Driscoll plays the lead role in “Left for Dead: The Ashley Reeves Story,” which tells the miraculous story of a 17-year-old relearning how to walk and talk after a horrific attack, out June 12. Premiering June 13 is “Secrets of a Gold Digger Killer,” which is based on the true story of a young mother plotting the murder of her wealthy, elderly husband in order to fast-track her inheritence and features Julie Benz, Eli Gabay and Justine Warrington and is produced by Fortune Hunter Films.“Secrets of a Marine’s Wife,” out June 19, tells the gripping story of Erin Corwin, who was mysteriously murdered while expecting her first child with her US Marine husband and is produced by Front Street Pictures. Premiering June 26,the Bradley Walsh-directed “Doomsday Mom” follows the true story of two missing children and their mother’s suspicious involvement in a doomsday-prepper group; Karen Glass and Tom Mazza of Everywhere Studios and Judith Verno of Peace Out Productions serve as executive producers.

Tucker Carlson will present an exclusive interview with Piers Morgan on April 5. The interview will premiere on the new Fox Nation streaming show “Tucker Carlson Today,” with a portion of it also airing on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” The one-hour special will be Morgan’s first on-camera interview since leaving ITV’s “Good Morning Britain” and will cover the reaction to his controversial comments surrounding Meghan Markle and his thoughts on the current state of the media.

“Pray, Obey, Kill,” a five-part docuseries about a complex murder in a remote Swedish village, will premiere April 12 at 9 p.m. on HBO. Coming from investigative journalists Anton Berg and Martin Johnson and director Henrik Georgsson, the show is launching with two back-to-back episodes that explore the 2004 case. “Pray, Obey, Kill” is produced by Ruth Reid and executive produced by Berg, Johnson, Martina Iacobaeus, Hanne Palmquist, Hanka Kastelicova and Anthony Root.

WarnerMedia has named Asif Sadiq to the newly created role of senior vice president, equity and inclusion, international. Sadiq will be based in London, working to implement a comprehensive strategy to address all aspects of diversity across WarnerMedia’s workforce, programs, content, suppliers and community alongside the rest of the equity and inclusion team. Before landing the role at WarnerMedia, Sadiq had a long career in the diversity and inclusion space and was honored with an MBE by the Queen in 2017.
