HBO has released the official trailer for House of the Dragon Season 2, previewing the impending war within the House Targaryen. Watch it below.

Season 2 of the Game of Thrones prequel features returning cast members Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans alongside Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.

New cast members include Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne.

Season 1 of the series featured a few significant time jumps while exploring the complicated family history of the Targaryen clan — once all-powerful, House Targaryen faces a period of decline, as other families seek to dismantle their hold over the Iron Throne. (Just because you have dragons doesn’t mean you have all the power, after all. Though having dragons doesn’t hurt.)

These are the events that will lead, nearly 200 years from now, to a descendant named Daenerys Targaryen marrying a Dothraki warlord to reclaim her family’s birthright. (As Game of Thrones reveals, it will not go well for Daenerys in the end.)

The second season of House of the Dragon, one of the most anticipated TV shows of 2024, premieres June 16th on HBO and Max at 9:00 p.m. ET. In the meantime, revisit our review of Season 1.
