“The Walking Dead” is still going strong on AMC, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t already thinking about the series’ ending.
Michael Rooker, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” star who also plays Merle Dixon on the show, shared his idea for the ending with attendees of Charlotte’s Walker-Stalker Con over the weekend.
“A railroad track … going on forever, into the setting sun,” Rooker began. “From behind camera, a single individual walks down the middle of the track … into the setting sun. You realize that individual is Carl … all grown-up, a man of his own.”
“No one else is with him — just him,” he continued. “And as he does his voiceover, you realize that all the seasons that you’ve seen is him reliving his past. So everyone on the show is dead. He’s the only survivor, and he’s on his own and walks off into the sunset. And that’s the end of the show.”
Robert Kirkman, the creator of “The Walking Dead” comic series, has previously said that the show and the comics won’t necessarily have the same ending, and that he would like the comics to continue after the show.
“If the show were to ever end at any point and the comic was still going, I would have to sit down with Scott [Gimple] and pretend I have no idea how to end it and then work with him to try and come up with a new ending,” Kirkman said in October.
