‘Walking Dead’ Season 11 Delayed, Season 10 to Get Extra Episodes in 2021

“The Walking Dead” officially will not debut Season 11 this October due to the ongoing production shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Series showrunner Angela Kang made the announcement Friday during the show’s Comic-Con@Home panel. This will mark the first time the show has failed to air a new season in October since it debuted in 2010.

It was also announced, however, that the Season 10 finale would air on Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC. The finale was originally set to air in April but was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. The opening minutes of the finale can be viewed below.

Kang also said that six additional episodes that will be considered part of Season 10 will be shot and aired in early 2021, bringing the season to 22 episodes total. That will make it the longest season in “Walking Dead” history.

“The Walking Dead” was renewed for Season 11 last October ahead of the Season 10 premiere. It was announced at that time that Lauren Cohan, who played Maggie Greene on the post-apocalyptic drama, will return as a series regular in the new season.

Furthermore, it was announced during the “Fear the Walking Dead” panel that the sixth season of that show will debut on Oct. 11 at 9 p.m. ET. A trailer for Season 6 can be seen below.

Finally, it was announced that the new show in the franchise, “The Walking Dead: World Beyond,” will debut on Oct 4. at 10 p.m. ET immediately after the Season 10 finale of “The Walking Dead.” That show was also set to debut in April but was pushed back due to the pandemic. A special episode of “Talking Dead” discussing both episodes will air after the series premiere. An extended trailer can be viewed below.
