AMC’s Expanding Walking Dead Franchise
“After sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes awakens from a coma in an abandoned hospital, he’s immediately thrust into a life-or-death struggle in an apocalyptic, walker-ravaged world,” reads the synopsis. “This complete collection of the series, based on Robert Kirkman’s acclaimed comic book, follows Rick and his band of survivors – Daryl, Morgan, Maggie, Carol, Michonne, Glenn, and more – as they struggle to survive their bleak new reality where the living pose as much of a threat as the hungry, roaming undead. From Alexandria and its promise of a better life to Negan’s ruthless Saviors to the Commonwealth’s corruption, every harrowing, suspenseful moment is here. But hope never dies, for as Rick defiantly puts it, “We’re the ones who live.”
The Walking Dead starred Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauran Cohan, Steven Yeun, Danai Gurira, and more. Following its series finale, AMC has greenlit three spin-offs centered around the franchise’s fan-favorite characters. The first one was Dead City starring Cohan’s Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan. The New York-set spin-off will then be followed by the Daryl Dixon series, which features Reedus’ titular character lost in another continent. Both shows have also recently scored Season 2 renewals.
Following Daryl Dixon, Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira reprise their fan-favorite roles in the upcoming Rick & Michonne series. In addition to starring, Gurira co-created and co-wrote the limited drama.
Based on Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard’s comic series of the same name, the series was executive produced by Kirkman, Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert, Joseph Incaprera, Gale Anne Hurd, Denise Huth, and Angela Kang.
