Walgreens Site Outage Delayed COVID-19 Test Scheduling, Results

DEERFIELD, IL — Some Walgreens users reported outages and slow loading times on the company's website Monday, causing them to struggle to access COVID-19 test scheduling and results.

Comments on IsItDownRightNow.com suggested issues with the site — several users posted at around 1 p.m. Central that they were unable to access their COVID-19 test results, and others said they couldn't visit the site at all.

One user tweeted that they tried to book a COVID-19 test for two hours, as reported by Nexstar Media Wire.

In a statement, Walgreens officials acknowledged the outage, and said it has been resolved.

"Today we experienced a temporary outage of some of our web applications, including the appointment scheduler for COVID-19 vaccinations and testing," the statement reads. "The issue has now been fixed, and we apologize to our customers and patients for any inconvenience."

According to UpdownRadar, Walgreens' outage issues began at around noon Monday, though the website didn't specify a time zone in its report. Only a handful of users reported issues in the morning, but by an hour later, the site had received 160 reports. An hour after that, it had risen to 262.

At around 1:45 p.m., an "Updates in Progress" message was temporarily posted on the site in place of its usual home screen, stating that the website was down.

"The Walgreens.com you know and love will be unavailable temporarily while we make some technical updates to the site," the message read. "We apologize for any inconvenience, but rest assured we'll be back online and better than ever soon."

Some users also said they were put into a virtual waiting room when trying to schedule a COVID-19 test, according to Nexstar.

Walgreens has seen "unprecedented demand" for testing and vaccine services and products as COVID-19 cases surge nationwide during the holiday season, the company said in a statement.
