Waka Flocka and Tammy Rivera Renew Their Vows in Mexico: 'Today My Dream Has Come True'

Waka Flocka and Tammy Rivera renewed their vows in an extravagant beach wedding in Mexico on Saturday, five years after they legally married without a ceremony in 2014.

Sharing her excitement with PEOPLE, Rivera, 32, explains that the couple agreed to have a traditional wedding ceremony if they reached the five-year mark of marriage.

“I told Waka that if we made it five years I wanted my dream wedding,” Rivera tells PEOPLE. “Today my dream has come true. I am marrying my best friend and soulmate all over again. When God made Waka, he wrote my name beside his.”

Though the couple hasn’t shared any photos of the ceremony on Instagram, they both posted snippets on their Instagram Story. Among other clips, Rivera posted a shot of her nails and her engagement ring next to her wedding band. Flocka posted a video of what appears to be Rivera’s daughter, Charlie, 13, dancing at the reception.

“Eight years ago I remember chasing Tammy down, grabbing her by the arm,” the rapper, 32, tells PEOPLE. “I had to keep her purse so she wouldn’t leave me, and I knew then that she would forever be mine.”

“I never knew what love was until I met Tammy,” Flocka continues. “Today I am giving her a dream wedding that she always wanted.”

In an Instagram post last week, Rivera showed off her engagement ring.

“Jan 21st we will be married for 5 years!” Rivera wrote. “We always said if we survive 5 years we will do the whole traditional ceremony, The Rings, The wedding, The Dress THE WHOLE SHEBANG!! So I’m happy to announce we will be having a destination wedding the right way with our mothers by our side on Jan 19! Every since I seen the episode of Martin when him and Gina got married on the beach that was my dream wedding.”

The couple — who separated in June of 2016 in the wake of Flocka’s infidelity but eventually reconciled — have shared their relationship on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. They can also be seen in the current season of WE tv’s Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition.

“I try to explain to people that it was so important for my child to see that during my separation with my husband that nothing was gonna change financially for her, so that made me step up and say, ‘You know what? I can’t allow my daughter to feel like, oh, when a man left…my life changed,'” Rivera said. “No, I couldn’t let that happen. I wanted her to know, nothing is a void. I wanted her life to stay the same, so that pushed me to stand up and everything that I was afraid to do.”
