Waka Flocka Flame has no interest in suing Latto over lyrics used in her new song “Issa Party,” hailing from his 2010 hit “Grove St. Party.

After a fan suggested that he take the fellow Atlanta rapper to court, Waka brushed off the thought — deeming her song “Flattery at [its] highest…”

“if i’m waka flocka my lawsuit was filed yesterday,” X user @myfaultOG23 wrote on Saturday (Sept. 30). Waka responded, “flattery at [its] highest…. never understood why rob these youngsters for showing us respect plus Lotto from Clayton County.”

Latto and Baby Drill released the single “Issa Party,” accompanied with a visual, on Friday (Sept. 30). In the high-energy anthem, the 24-year-old raps the remixed hook, “It’s a party, it’s a party, it’s a party, ayy/ I got shots for all the opps, it’s a holiday/ It’s a party, it’s a party, it’s a party.”

As some thought the veteran rapper should take the legal route, others agreed with his way of thinking.

“They forgot Hip-Hop was built on respect. Sampling & borrowing is in the bloodline of hip-hop,” one other person responded to Waka, before quoting Nas. “‘No idea’s original. There’s nothing new under the sun. It’s never what you do but how it’s done.’ – Nas.”

In November 1999, Prince gave an interview where he said that sampling was “getting out of hand” in music and “pretty soon we’ll be sampling the sample, that was already sampled.” He also suggested that as a music community, sampling be addressed for “what it’s doing to the culture.”

Latto has followed the popular musical method, as she sampled Mariah Carey in her 2022 smash hit “Big Energy,” which features familiar sounds from MC’s 1995 “Fantasy.” Ironically, Carey’s song also sampled Tom Tom Club’s 1981 single “Genius of Love.”

However, neither Carey or Waka have an issue with the blossoming rap star using their massive hits for her own musical gain. In fact, over the weekend, Latto, Baby Drill and Waka were actually seen out at a strip club together, making it rain.

Waka clearly approves.
