Vote for Jared. Stark County resident competes on reality TV show "Cabin Wars"

Jared Emerick is asking Stark County and Ohio residents for an online boost to help him win the new reality television show, "Cabin Wars."

The 35-year-old Plain Township resident, marketer, entrepreneur and home rehab specialist is a contestant on "Cabins Wars: Flip It To Win It," which pits two- or three-person teams against each other in a race to renovate an outdated cabin with a budget of $20,000 in 30 days.

Contestants must convert the cabins into "chic glamping spaces."

Filmed since early January over the course of several weeks in Robert, Louisiana, "Cabin Wars" is scheduled to be streamed in the spring on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube and Vimeo.

Another aspect of the competition is online voting, a factor in helping participants win $40,000 and advance to the final event, where individual winners of the five seasons of the show will vie for $100,000.

Emerick describes "Cabins Wars" as a hybrid of an HGTV house flipping show mixed with "The Voice" and "Survivorman."

Servio Capital, a Louisiana-based real estate development company, is producing the show.

"Ohio is always the underdog," Emerick said. "People from Ohio never are given a shot, and this is the time for our community to come together and shine. We never think we are the underdog."

He's also been hustling for votes in Louisiana, including recently while eating at Olive Garden, shuffling from table to table and imploring people to cast their support online. And his wife went door to door in the neighborhood where they have been staying to solicit support.

How did Jared get picked for the reality TV show?

Once Emerick became aware of "Cabin Wars," he thought the show sounded like a good fit.

An extensive application and interview process followed.

"I felt like the Lord kind of put it on my heart a little bit," he said Thursday in a phone interview from Louisiana. "I felt a little something in my gut."

Picked to be among 15 individual rehab teams, Emerick flew to Louisiana with his wife, Ashley Emerick, and their young children to begin filming.

"Faith, marriage, kids, the highs and lows of it all, everybody has a story, but to be able to tell that story is another thing," he said of reality television. "And somehow I got selected."

Who else is on Jared's "Cabin Wars" team?

Joining Emerick on "Cabin Wars" is contractor Mike Mallory of Akron. "We've done tons of houses together," Emerick said. Also on the team is designer Jenny Gennaro, a real estate agent from Cleveland.

Emerick and Mallory have been on set nonstop while Gennaro has visited periodically to lend her help and insight.

How did the 'Anti-Boss' team design their cabin?

Emerick's squad revamped a 500-square-foot cabin.

"Our design is modern but comfy," he said, noting there's also a stylistic nod to Louisiana. "So I wanted the guys to walk in and say, 'This is cool. I could stay here,' but I wanted the women to walk in and say, 'This is luxurious,' and I think we knocked that out of the park."

Challenges included competing against teams from Louisiana, who had a home turf advantage for networking and contacts, Emerick noted.

Emerick and his team countered with grit and sacrifice.

"We had to go 14- to 16-hour days, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.," he said. "Even later sometimes. (Mallory) is honestly the hardest working person I know ... and without him, there was no chance of it being done. I'm trying to maintain being a dad and a husband at the same time."

Cabins were shown off at an open house attended by more than 2,000 Louisiana residents, Emerick said.

"That went extremely well," he said of his cabin.

When will Emerick appear on the TV show?

Emerick isn't sure which of the five seasons of "Cabin Wars" he will appear on. So stay tuned.

Filming wraps up this weekend, he said.

Like all reality TV shows, expect plenty of drama and conflict. In addition to film crews, contestants had GoPro video cameras documenting nearly every moment.

There's not a specific release date yet.

"The post production will determine the seasons," Emerick said.
