9:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘The Voice’!” In episode 5, blind auditions continued. Joining Team Reba were Zeya Rae and Elyscia Jefferson. Joining Team Chance was Serenity Arce. Joining Team Dan + Shay were Ducote TalmageRyan Coleman and AJ Harvey. Joining Team Legend were Ronnie Wilson and Zoe Levert. Let’s complete the blinds!

9:02 p.m. – With only one spot apiece, the coaches were anxious to see which team would fill up first. Following Val T. Webb‘s rendition of “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here,” John made the case that he should be the first, but he was challenged by all three other coaches before the audition concluded in another four chair turn. John told her that she handled the audition with “poise and grace” and complimented her “elegant” tone. Shay said it felt like he was “in a worship service” listening to her and Dan said she “kicked it into a whole new gear.” Chance pointed out her breath control and high register as what stood out to him and then appreciated that she listened to her son’s advice on trying out. Reba backtracked that as a country artist she might be able to contribute anything, but hit her button because she had no notes for her performance. In this hotly contested battle to complete their team, it was Team Chance to closed the deal first.

9:12 p.m. – Up next was Joewun Bee from Florida with his audition of “Over My Head (Cable Car),” but he wasn’t able to get any of the coaches to turn around. Chance was a huge fan of the song choice and urged him to come back. John also liked the song choice, but called it a “mismatch” with the way he sang the song. He advised that he has a beautiful voice and wants to hear it matched with the right song.

9:21 p.m. – The next artist was Kyle Schuesler whose version of “The Scientist” earned an early chair turn from John and a second one from Dan + Shay, followed by one from Reba for a three chair turn. Chance said that he couldn’t turn around, but would have if he still had a spot on his team. Reba added that his voice is “relaxing and soothing” with a “smooth” falsetto. John’s input was to point out how early he turned his chair, noting that it was because of his “spot-on” falsetto. Dan was happy to hear that Kyle is a fan of country music because he can see him doing those kind of songs. Shay thought his voice was “original” and pushed back against any narrative John wanted to build for himself. In this predicament, Kyle decided to join Team Dan + Shay because he wants to get further into the “country aspect” of his artistry.

9:33 p.m. – With only two open spots, 34 year old L. Rodgers came to the stage for a new take on “Wild Horses” and earned a surprising chair turn from Reba in the very, very last second of the performance. Reba said she got caught up listening and was “blown away” by her vocal. She added that it was the “roundness” and “fullness” of her voice. L. told Reba that she’s been an inspiration her whole life and she’s her favorite coach on the panel. John added that he appreciates how passionate she is and thinks she has an “infectious vibe.” The decision completed Team Reba and left John alone with the last remaining spot on a team.

9:44 p.m. – Hoping to become the last artist of the season, Raina Chan was up next to sing “Hold My Hand.” It wasn’t a match for Team Legend, but when Reba found out that Raina is only 14 years old she exclaimed that she wished they could “start over” so that she could pick her for her team. John thought that Raina should “keep performing” and return to the show in a later season after more development.

9:53 p.m. – The “special” artist that John was saving to pick was 24 year old Olivia Rubini from Delaware. Following her performance of “Long Long Time,” the other three coaches all said that they would have turned for her if they could. John said she sounds like someone who “understands how to be a vocal artist” and so it made sense to him that her dad is a producer. He was also relieved that he didn’t need to fight any of the other coaches to claim her to his team because she’s such a “unique talent.”
