8:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘The Voice’!” In episode 2, blind auditions continued. Joining Team Reba was Donny Van Slee. Joining Team Chance were Maddi Jane and Gabriel Goes. Joining Team Dan + Shay was Karen Waldrup. Joining Team Legend were OK3Nathan Chester and Gene Taylor. Let’s continue the blinds!

8:02 p.m. – Acknowledging himself as the oldest contestant of the season, 49 year old former Christian band guitarist Bryan Olesen kicked off the third set of blinds with his audition of “Love Runs Out.” Only one line into his performance, John, Dan and then Reba all hit their buttons to put in their bid for Bryan. Reba said she turned around because she felt the performance without seeing him and then thought the “package was complete” once she was able to watch him. John referred to it as “the best audition we’ve seen” and thinks he has “everything to be a superstar.” Shay called his voice “next level” and Dan liked that it started out “tender and chill” and then went “full rock star” later on. After brining his daughter on stage for a little ditty, Bryan chose John as his coach.

8:13 p.m. – The next artist to perform for the coaches was Frank Garcia with “Love in the Dark.” Dan + Shay agreed that they both wanted him before hitting their button together and then went unchallenged by any of the other teams. When Frank spoke to the coaches, Chance was surprised that their speaking voice and singing voice were in totally different registers. Dan was impressed that Frank took the risk of singing an Adele song and Shay called the other coaches out for not turning their chairs.

8:24 p.m. – Hawaiian homestead resident Kamalei Kawa’a represented his indigenous roots with an interpretation of “Redemption Song,” a track that reminds him of the fight for freedom. Chance jumped in for Kamalei immediately only to be challenged by Reba late in the song. Shay said he was “blown away” and John appreciates that he’s representing his culture. Chance said that his song choice “brought something out of” him because it’s a “radical” song that speaks to “all oppressed peoples.” Chance agrees that it’s “really important” for him to be on the show and represent “all native peoples.” Reba agreed with Chance and added that the song “touched [her] heart” and there was something different about the way he performed it that she liked. When Kamalei chose to join Team Chance, even Reba acknowledged that he “did good” with his choice.

8:37 p.m. – 37 year old Ten from Atlanta was up next with her audition of “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops)” in the hopes of finding “the next big opportunity” to take her craft to “the next level.” Unfortunately none of the coaches turned their chair for her, but they did offer advice for her continued growth. Chance said she had a “cool take” on the song, but hearing it “in a new way slowed [him] down” from appreciating it. John added that there’s “a lot of lyric to squeeze out” and so she was behind it through her performance.

8:47 p.m.Ashley Bryant followed with her take on “Last Name,” but despite what seemed like early interest from Dan + Shay it looked like Ashley wasn’t going to make the show until Reba finally turned her chair in the last moments. With an automatic berth on her team, Reba said that Carrie Underwood would be proud of that performance of her song. John told Ashley that he won the show with an artist that, like Ashley, had “significant hearing loss” and so she should believe that she can, too. Shay said they regret that they didn’t turn their chair, but it’s only because they already have an artist like her on their team.

8:58 p.m. – The next artist was Selma resident Asher Havon with the second Adele cover of the night, “Set Fire to the Rain.” Once again, Chance knew immediately that he wanted the artist and hit his button for Asher quickly. Dan + Shay held out until the song reached the first chorus and then Reba joined in as well for a three-way contest. Reba called his voice “incredible” because of the “range” and “power.” Dan liked that his range went from great low notes and also featured falsetto moments. Shay added that he also grew up singing in church and so they could connect as coach and artist on that level. Chance said “everything [he] did was phenomenal” and he thinks he can “win the whole show.” Even though the audience was chanting “Chance,” Asher threw Chance a curveball by asking to join Team Reba instead.

9:10 p.m. – New Orleans resident Mecca Notes incorporates music and hip hop culture into his lessons as a high school teacher and hopes to represent his students and his city with his version of “Master Blaster (Jammin’).” Even though Dan + Shay said they were “blown away by the power” of his voice, they didn’t turn their chair because they were holding out for “something specific.” John acknowledged the “kinetic energy” of his voice, but he was held back due to “control issues” and said it “could have been tighter.” Without a chair turn, Mecca would have to audition in a future season in order to make the show.

9:18 p.m. – With her audition of “Flowers,” Jackie Romeo turned the mood around by getting chair turns from John and Dan + Shay. Shay said he could tell she was nervous, but Dan thought her performance “kept getting better and better.” The country duo wasn’t intimidated by Jackie saying that her lane is “British pop/soul,” a genre that seemed to interest John in his chances of her picking him. John liked that she was able to make the song sound her own and wants to help coach her through more “popular” songs. Unsurprisingly, John won this round and Jackie became the newest member of Team Legend.

9:25 p.m. – In a short clip, we saw John also pull in Rivers Grayson to his team in a single chair turn off the strength of an audition of “Babylon.” John called the performance “subtle” and “executed with beauty and grace.”

9:30 p.m. – Next up was 22 year old Corey Curtis from a small town in Georgia with “Waiting on the World to Change.” Chance was the only coach to turn his chair, telling him the “one note” that he should enunciate more in order to find more room to add “emphasis” to the notes. Reba said she didn’t turn despite loving his voice, but thinks that he’ll “have a blast” as a member of Team Chance. John thought there’s “a certain kind of character” in his voice, but he wants to see development and evidence of a larger range in his voice.

9:42 p.m. – Calling herself “100% a mountain girl,” Summer Brooke from North Carolina grew up surrounded by bluegrass music in the family and at church. She was a member of a vocal group that was on their way to success prior to 2020, but in that year they broke up and so the show is her chance to restart her dream of making a career in music. She did not get any support from the coaches with her version of “Hold on to Me” though. Shay called out “a little bit of pitch issues,” but “highly recommended” that she come back next year. Reba asked her to “relax” her vibrato and “use in sparingly.” John agreed that pitch was an issue and she could work on her breath support.

9:51 p.m. – The final audition of the night came from Madison Curbelo who first auditioned on season 20 without making the show. She took Blake Shelton‘s advice to work the circuit performing at gigs and has since finished her education at Berklee. Tonight she impressed John right away with her take on “Stand by Me” and then went on to become a four chair turn when Dan + Shay, Chance and Reba all joined the battle. Reba said that she “did a beautiful job” on the song. John told her that he “loves [her] story” and says that she’s “ready now” because her voice “has this brightness to it.” Shay said she “radiates light and joy” and that she has a “flawless” voice. Chance called her “an awesome talent” that makes him smile just listening to her and counseled her to pick the coach that can help her with her arrangements. John thought that he had Madison’s choice in the bag, but she surprised the panel by joining Team Dan + Shay instead.
