8:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘The Voice’!” In episode 3, the coaches continued to build their teams with the third set of blind auditions. Joining Team Reba were Mac Royals, Tom Nitti and Alison Albrecht. Joining Team Niall were Reid Zingale and Noah Spencer. Joining Team Gwen were Chechi Sarai and Rudi. Joining Team Legend were SteeClaudia B. and Talakai. Let’s see what Night 4 has to offer!

8:02 p.m. – The first artist to audition tonight was 20 year old Laura Williams who mentioned that this performance is her “first gig.” She was immediately worthy of a chair turn from Gwen and Niall in the first few notes of “Fingers Crossed.” Reba and John joined in a little bit later, making Laura the 10th four chair turn so far this season. Gwen told her that she’s “one of the best” they’ve heard because of the control and character she had for a song that she made sound like her own. Niall offered that it’s a hard song to sing and Laura had the breath control to manage it. Reba considered Laura a “prodigy” for how well she performed at her age and with no gigging experience. John said that Laura needs to not be “over-coached” and so the perfect pair will be letting her remain as raw and talented as she already is. With all the options available to her, Laura became the newest member of Team Niall.

8:12 p.m. – Up next was Ms. Monét, a background vocalist of 33 years and a current radio personality in Pittsburgh. Her take on “Higher Love” had the audience rising to their feet and the coaches dancing in their chairs, but it took longer than expected for any of them to turn their chairs. Gwen and Reba pitted themselves against each other on this one. Niall said he didn’t turn his chair because he felt like he wouldn’t be help to a technical and powerful voice like hers. Reba called her polished and it was evident that she’s not a newcomer. Gwen said she can help her with being able to step into the spotlight. At that point, Monét reminded Gwen that she actually sang background for her on her 2017 holiday album. In making her final decision, Monét said that she believes she’ll be able to “reach the next level” as a member of Team Reba.

8:26 p.m. – With blocks on their minds, the coaches sat back for Jason Arcilla‘s rendition of “Dreams” thinking they were listening to a female singer. Once again, only Gwen and Reba turned their chairs, but this time Gwen used her block and stopped Jason from being able to choose Reba, leaving him as a default addition to Team Gwen. Reba told him that he made the right song choice because it touched her heart. John noticed the “roundness” in his tone and Gwen called his voice “soft” and “tender.”

8:37 p.m. – Rock ‘n’ roller Giuliana Amaral brought the guitar out for her performance of “Rainbow in the Dark,” but the effort was not enough for any of the coaches to turn their chairs despite Reba and Gwen considering it. Niall thought that Giuliana’s voice wasn’t dynamic throughout the song and Gwen would have wanted to hear more diversity in her vocal and “some tuning things” were off.

8:47 p.m. – 17 year old Kaylee Shimizu took the stage next with “Golden Slumbers” and a succession of button hits from John, Niall, Reba and then Gwen to make yet another four chair turn for the season. John referenced Kaylee’s voice as “dazzling” and “musical,” telling her that she can win the show as a member of his team. Gwen was “blown away” by the “wave” of her vibrato. Niall called her a “technically gifted” singer and likes that she made a “linear” song her own. Reba called Kaylee’s performance “spiritual” and connected with her over the shared experience of growing up singing with siblings. When Kaylee chose to join Team Legend, she gave John his fourth four chair turn artist, a season high at this point.

8:59 p.m. – While John was reminiscing about his buddy Blake Shelton, 23 year old Bias was delivering spot-on Blake impersonations to the producers backstage. The worship leader and country artist chose “God’s Country” as a way of appealing to Gwen’s ear and hopefully earning that spot on the show. For the third time of the night, both Gwen and Reba hit their buttons for yet another head-to-head. Niall mentioned “pitch issues” that kept him from turning around, but admitted that it’s a tough song to sing. Gwen said she loved his “spirit” and “energy” and wants to help him bring that out more. Reba noticed the crowd’s reaction to his performance and that’s what convinced her to hit her button. As an admitted “tot guy,” Bias could have gone with the “Queen of Country,” but shocked the room by joining Team Gwen instead.

9:11 p.m. – 40 year old David Simmons, Jr. moved to Los Angeles for the background and session work opportunities available there that weren’t available to him growing up as a young gay man in a religious household in Missouri. His rendition of “Tainted Love” fell short of the expectations of the coaches because of the different arrangement he’d done with his group. John thought there were nerves that were holding David back and Gwen mentioned a “disconnect to the lyrics.”

9:21 p.m. – First generation Vietnamese-American Rachele Nguyen was up next with a version of “Bleeding Love” that had one big moment Reba couldn’t resist. With only one chair turn, Rachele defaulted to Team Reba, but the other coaches had notes for her. Gwen thought she should map out her runs, Niall admitted to being excited by the maturation of her voice, and Reba said she wanted to be a part of the journey watching Rachele blossom in her potential.

9:32 p.m. – Niall was the first coach to turn for Lvndr‘s spin on “Hotline Bling” only to be challenged by John moments later. Before getting to their comments, Lvndr bestowed gift necklaces to each of the coaches to remind them of her name. John told her that she was a “peaceful” yet “musically daring” artist. Niall added that he found it “something special” because of her “abundance” of character. Reba and Gwen regretted not turning their chairs for Lvndr, but with the choice in her hands it was another win for Team Niall as he brought her over in the head-to-head.

9:42 p.m.Walking Eagle was excited to have the chance to perform “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” in front of four musical legends. He said he’d have fun in the audition, but it couldn’t have been fun to see none of the coaches turn their chair for him. Niall noticed pitch issues and would have liked Walking Eagle to own the song in his style a little more. John added that it was “too sweet” and needed “more edge” in order to work.

9:54 p.m. – Wedding DJ Jacquie Roar refers to herself as a “natural party host” that is a member of only a handful of country rock bands that find success in Oregon. With “Here for the Party,” Jacquie caught the attention of the coaches late, but in the last verse all four of them hit their buttons for the rock performer. Reba was a fan of the song choice and Jacquie’s range. John wanted to know outright whether Jacquie was already planning to pick Reba, but she committed to being open to all of them. Niall waited for and found “the dynamic” of her performance. Gwen wanted Jacquie to know that she also straddles the fence of country and rock, having “lived your dream already.” John joked that he would be the “obvious choice” to pair with, but emphasized how powerful her voice is and that he loves the “growl” in it. Bringing her daughter out to help make the decision, Jacquie stuck to girl power and picked Gwen as her coach.
