8:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘The Voice’!” In episode 10, the coaches continued refining their teams in the battles. On Team Reba Rachele Nguyen defeated Mac Royals (stolen by John). On Team Niall Nini Iris defeated Sophia Hoffman. On Team Gwen Chechi Sarai defeated Calla Prejean. On Team Legend Caleb Sasser defeated Talakai and Lila Forde defeated Jarae Womack. Let’s continue the battles!

8:02 p.m. – Tonight Reba got the show to a start with two country artists singing “Jolene” together. Al Boogie and Ruby Leigh were excited to get to take on an iconic song by an iconic artist that they have looked up to their entire lives. In rehearsal, Reba told them that they have great vocals, but “I don’t feel it though.” She wanted them to connect to the lyric, pleading to a woman with the emotion and passion that she wants to get out of her relationship. She also gave them advice about how to keep their voices in good shape through daily practice and regimens.

8:09 p.m. – Niall liked Al’s “infectious” tone and complimented his ability to hold the low notes, but said that Ruby put “not a foot wrong.” He also recalled her blind audition as one of the most memorable moments for him and so he leaned toward choosing her. Gwen added that it’s impressive how young Ruby is and she gave her chills while Al has a “dynamic” voice with great tone. John said they’re both “compelling and connected to the lyric,” but that Al started out as an underdog which could give him an edge. But John also likes the character in Ruby’s voice and says she’s “in possession of [her] identity as an artist.” Reba called the performance “absolutely wonderful” because it showed their versatility. Reba said she loved them both, but the winner of the battle is Ruby.

8:19 p.m. – For Gwen’s first battle pairing of the night she put together Joslynn Rose and Rudi on the big song “My Immortal.” Gwen said she paired them because they’re “equally gifted” and they have voices and storytelling that can take on the song that has never been done on the show before. In their practice session, Gwen wanted Rudi to focus on her facial expression because she’s already where she needs to be on the vocal. With Joslynn, Gwen sees her as “so composed,” but wanted her to come off of the mic stand in order to strengthen the connection.

8:29 p.m. – John loved the start to Joslynn’s performance, noting her voice and tone as lovely, and thinks that Rudi is “coming into her own.” Reba appreciated Joslynn’s control in her low register and called out Rudi’s stage presence as the standout. Niall added that Rudi was “flawless” and it felt like she was “climbing a mountain” throughout, but then echoed how strong Joslynn was at the beginning of the song. Gwen said that “what’s cool about Joslynn” is how much control she has over the dynamics and what she’s impressed with Rudi for is how “tasteful” she is in her approach to singing. Gwen decided to go with who she sees as most ready to compete on the show and so she went with Rudi.

8:40 p.m. – Niall chose Noah Spencer and Reid Zingale to go head-to-head because they both lean in the folk lane and thought they’d pair together on “Lego House” really well. Niall wanted Reid to “sit back in the groove” without racing through the song and Noah to bring more of his natural twang into the vocal.

8:50 p.m. – Gwen loved the performance, saying that Reid has an interesting tone and that Noah should be “signed tomorrow.” John said that both had compelling moments — Reid being unexpected and Noah’s rasp being interesting. Reba called Reid’s voice pure, but also like Noah’s grit. Niall echoed the comments that Reid’s tone is beautiful and that Noah is “closed off” and that makes him an intriguing vocalist. Based on the comments across the board, Niall went with Noah as his personal winner.

9:01 p.m. – John’s first battle of the night was between Azán and Taylor Deneen between they match up stylistically and that made them perfect for “Do It.” John liked that it was a type of song that isn’t seen on the show very often, but felt it was in capable hands with two strong R&B vocalists. John asked Taylor to be “a little more playful and seductive” in order to give the performance more vibe. He liked Azán’s charisma and complimented the melodic changes she made that still made sense in the song.

9:10 p.m. – Reba exclaimed that the performance and choreography was “fantastic” and was “very entertained” by both of them. Niall agreed that it was a pretty equal battle and “didn’t hear anything wrong” between the two of them. He leaned toward Azán, but still thinks that Taylor is ready for the competition as well. Gwen thought Azán had a little more stage presence and commanded more attention, but Taylor becomes something new when she sings and so she was more impressed by her. John’s thoughts were that Azán is “magnetic and energetic” on stage and that Taylor “really came through” with confidence and gorgeous singing. In the end, John’s decision came down to Taylor for her “stunning” vocal talent. But this was the moment that both Niall and Reba were waiting for, going in together for a steal option on Azán. Niall said that Azán would be unique on his team and thinks she’ll be “dangerous” in the competition. Reba said she hit her button because she was “totally taken” and says she has the “total package to be a superstar.” With the choice in her hands, Azán decided to join Team Niall.

9:23 p.m. – Niall kept things going with the pairing of Alexa Wildish and Lvndr on “everything i wanted.” Niall sees them both as his best storytellers, but advised them to connect to each other earlier in the song. Alexa asked for tips on her body language while Lvndr is singing because she’s never performed without an instrument in her hands.

9:32 p.m. – Gwen thought the performance was “so pretty,” complimenting Lvndr on her “signature sound” and Alexa for having a voice that sounds like it’s from the 70s. John could tell that Lvndr was influenced by Billie and understood the song, but thinks Alexa’s voice was “arresting” and he was swayed by how she made her announcement into the song with her voice. Reba called Lvndr’s voice “tender” and that Alexa connected to the audience. Niall thought they both “executed it so well” and didn’t think either of them should go home, regretting that he pitted them together in the first place. Facing a tough decision he didn’t want to make, Niall decided to keep Alexa based on “gut instinct.”

9:39 p.m. – We also saw a clip from the Team Gwen battle between Jenna Marquis and Claire Heilig on “Flowers” where Jenna won for being “so stylized” for her age and a clear identity.

9:44 p.m. – The night ended with John pitting Kaylee Shimizu against Elizabeth Evans because he wanted to hear them together on a youthful pop rock track like “traitor.” After a first pass through the song, John wanted Elizabeth to have a little more finesse in the chorus and encouraged Kaylee to not put too many runs in the song because it conveys a different emotion than the intent of the song.

9:53 p.m. – Reba was impressed by the vocal range between the two, calling out Elizabeth’s big note and Kaylee’s range overall. Niall said that they delivered the “best version of that song” he’s heard and thinks that Kaylee’s control for her age is really impressive, but also noted that Elizabeth “stands out in the competition” because of her identity as an artist. Gwen gave Elizabeth props for holding her own against Kaylee who has so much control and maintaining her own originality. John called them both “interesting and cool,” like Elizabeth’s “quirky” choices in the vocal and Kaylee’s “level of ability” and “polish at such a young age.” For his decision, John kept Kaylee on his team. Just as Elizabeth was exiting the stage in front of Reba, she hit her steal button to bring her over to her team because of how memorable she was since the blind auditions.
