‘The Voice’ Dominates Reality-Packed Fall TV Lineup | Charts

October is the time for creepy TV programming, whether that’s slightly spooky family fare or outright horror. But it’s “The Voice” that’s dominating the charts in this week’s edition of the most-watched TV shows and movies, courtesy of Samba TV.

Disney+ won in the spooky department this week, as “Haunted Mansion” entered the streaming chart on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of Oct. 2 to Oct. 8.

The adaptation of Disney’s popular theme park ride was especially popular with Hispanic households, who over-indexed by 16%. It’s also the latest in a string of 2023 theatrical releases that have made their way onto both Disney+ and the streaming chart in recent weeks. That list includes “Elemental,” the Pixar film that has made the chart four weeks in a row (ranking ninth this week).

The Wrap Report provides an exclusive first look at the most watched movies and TV series from the past week across both streaming and linear television sourced from viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households, which are drawn from over 25 million connected TVs and balanced to the U.S. Census.

We can expect Halloween content to pop in October, so it’s perhaps a bigger surprise that Netflix’s “Reptile” remains in first place for the second consecutive week. The Benicio Del Toro detective film managed to stave off one of the most popular streaming shows in recent weeks, the Star Wars series “Ahsoka” on Disney+.

The season finale of “Ahsoka” this week was the second most-watched streaming program. It has been on the leaderboard every week since the season premiere on Aug. 22, having ranked number one that week. Coincidentally, Rosario Dawson stars in both “Ahsoka” and “Haunted Mansion.”

Four more Netflix entries join “Reptile” on the streaming chart this week. The Spanish-language survival thriller “Nowhere” appears to be a sleeper hit, rising from sixth to third this week. Reality dating show “Love is Blind” is fifth, “Beckham,” a documentary series on the iconic soccer star, is seventh, and “Fair Play,” a thriller released in theaters in late September and added to streaming just a week later, is tenth.

Another surprise this week is “The Equalizer 3,” which lands in sixth following a similarly fast theater-to-streaming trajectory. The Denzel Washington-led action movie was released in theaters on Sept. 1 and arrived on video-on-demand on Oct. 3. This short window was enough to inspire viewers to pay to rent or own the flick in the comfort of their homes, propelling it into the Top 10.

Last but not least is “Only Murders in the Building.” The popular Hulu show has been a mainstay on the streaming chart throughout the entirety of its third season. This week’s season finale helped earn its spot in eighth this week.

‘The Voice’ dominates the top linear TV of the week

Linear remains the domain of reality and contest shows, but new scripted series continue to poke through. “Found,” a procedural drama that premiered on NBC on Oct. 3, cracks the top 10, coming in ninth this week. That’s on the heels of “The Irrational,” another new NBC series that came in tenth last week. With “The Irrational” slipping from the charts this week, it remains to be seen if these new shows can maintain staying power.

Speaking of staying power, “The Voice” remains in first place this week – and actually grabs second place as well. Last week, the popular singing show’s season premiere took over the top spot, bumping the summer superpower “America’s Got Talent” from the top of the charts. “AGT’s” 18th season is now over, so this may be the beginning of a long reign for “The Voice.”

In third this week is “Yellowstone,” which continues to draw a big audience as CBS airs the first season on broadcast TV. After that, the linear top 10 is full of perennial favorites from across the broadcast networks. “Dancing With the Stars,” in its 32nd season, is fourth. “The Golden Bachelor” is fifth, season 45 of “Survivor” is sixth, season 22 of “Hell’s Kitchen” comes in seventh, and season 17 of “Shark Tank” lands in eighth. “Lego Masters,” kicking off its fourth season on FOX, comes in tenth.
