'Voice' contestant overcomes her phobia during 'most awkward, horrifying situation of a performance'

The blind auditions continued on Season 22 of The Voice, and while Blake Shelton spent Monday's season premiere messing with new coach Camila Cabello, on Tuesday, it was his wife Gwen Stefani he had to go up against.

25-year-old Sadie Bass has suffered from stage fright her whole life. Growing up, no one other than her close family members even knew she could sing or songwrite. However, Sadie decided to face her biggest fear in the biggest way possible by going on national television to sing on one of the biggest singing competitions in the world.

Following her audition, Blake told Sadie, "The stage fright thing can keep someone from opening up and, honestly, thrusting yourself into this most awkward, horrifying situation of a performance? That’s a helluva way to overcome your fear, right there. So, congratulations. You did it."

Meanwhile, Gwen told the young singer, "Sometimes you just need that person that can be a mirror to yourself and say, ‘Listen: You are amazing. You just need to let it loose right now.’ So, my coaching would be just building you up."

While Sadie ultimately chose Team Gwen, Camila, who has also suffered from anxiety and stage fright in the past, also offered to help her with her fears should she ever need it, as she told Sadie, "That really resonated with me, what you said about the stage fright. I actually had the exact same experience as you."

Cabello added, "I had never sang in front of anybody before and, like, my knees were shaking. I thought I was gonna pass out. So I want to say I'm really proud of you, because that's no small feat. And even though I won't be your coach, I'm here for anything you need on the stage-fright stuff, because I worked so much to overcome that."
