MTV's VMAs, or Video Music Awards, are back tonight and nominees include the Jonas Brothers (who recently played Phoenix), Blackpink, Sza, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus and Bad Bunny.

The VMAs have been around since 1984 with the first ceremony being held at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. This year is the 38th show and it will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Nicki Minaj is set to host. Performances include Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Wayne, Olivia Rodrigo, Demi Lovato, Doja Cat, Måneskin, Stray Kids and Kelsea Ballerini.

The award show has featured some iconic moments, such as in 2009 when Taylor Swift was interrupted by rapper Kanye West during her acceptance speech in the best female video category for “You Belong with Me.” West said the award should have gone to Beyoncé, who he believed had “one of the best videos of all time.”
