Demi Lovato returned to the VMAs stage for the first time in six years Tuesday night.

Backed by an all-female band, at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, Lovato dove into a rock rendition of some of her biggest hits, including “Heart Attack,” “Sorry Not Sorry” and “Cool for the Summer.” In the audience, stars like Taylor Swift and Ice Spice could be seen singing and dancing along, as flames engulfed the stage surrounding Lovato.

“Sorry Not Sorry” featured a guitar solo from Lovato’s guitarist Nita Strauss, followed by “Cool for the Summer,” in which Lovato electrified the crowd with her signature belt.

The performance comes just days before Lovato’s upcoming album Revamped is set to release on Sept. 15. The singer-songwriter went into the night up for two VMAs for “Swine” — best pop video and video for good. Previously, the former Disney Channel star performed her hit song “Sorry Not Sorry” on the VMAs stage in 2017.

In addition to Lovato, the night’s top nominees included Taylor Swift with 11 nods, followed by SZA, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Blackpink, Olivia Rodrigo and more. For the first time ever, all nominees for Artist of the Year were women.
