Visual Effects Society Awards: ‘The Creator’ wins on way to Oscars

“The Creator” won five of its seven races at the 22nd Visual Effects Society Awards on February 21, including the VES equivalent of the Best Picture race — visual effects in a feature motion picture. It also picked up prizes for created environment, compositing and lighting, effects simulations and model.

Also in competition for the top VES award was one of its rivals for the Oscar, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which won two of its seven bids: animated character and virtual cinematography. Among its competition for the former award was another of the Oscar nominees, “Godzilla Minus One,”

“Oppenheimer” won practical effects over, among others, the Oscar-nominated “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.” The fifth Oscar nominee, “Napoleon,” lost the supporting visual effects award to “Nyad.”
