Visit free Lamb Arts Fest in Hopewell: Live music, art exhibits, hands-on art, play zone

HOPEWELL — The fourth annual Lamb Arts Fest takes place this weekend. The Fest’s tagline “See art! Make art!” will take place in full force.

Lamb Center for Arts and Healing [Lamb Arts] hosts the free community event which provides access to the arts through world class exhibitions, student art showcases, art activities, local and national artists and related vendors.

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts [VMFA] will be back again with exhibitions and activities. Attendees may take part in free hands-on art activities led by Lamb Arts and other local organizations. The Lamb Arts Fest, intended to celebrate the arts and the creativity of the Tri-Cities community, also includes live music.

Lamb Arts Fest: Special exhibitions

Appomattox Regional Public Library's Hopewell branch will host two exhibitions, an educational exhibition on loan from the VMFA as well as artwork of Hopewell City Public Schools art teachers.

Additionally, visitors will be able to see work created by students from all seven Hopewell City Public Schools and an additional VMFA educational exhibit entitled “They Call It Stormy Weather: How Artists see the Weather and the Seasons” which was used to inspire students' work.

"This year we will be featuring the work of over 125 Hopewell students and their Fine Arts teachers. One class from each school was selected to participate in workshops led by Lamb Arts staff this fall," Dr. Eliza Lamb, Lamb Arts co-founder and executive director, said.

Guests will have ample opportunities to explore different art forms and leave the event with their very own creations. Participants can print shirts with Studio Two Three, dance to live music provided by the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School’s Jazz Band, engage with the work of local artists, explore materials like charcoal and tempera paint and make buttons or bracelets.
