Like Kim Wexler poring over a new case file, we’ve been looking very closely for any details about Rhea Seehorn’s upcoming Apple TV+ series written by Vince Gilligan — and now we’ve hit the motherlode.

Gilligan dropped a few juicy hints about the project that reunites him with his Better Call Saul star Seehorn, telling our sister site Variety: “I wouldn’t call this heavy science fiction, I would call it mild science fiction… There’s no crime, and no methamphetamine. It’s going to be fun and different.”

Like Breaking Bad and Saul, the still-untitled new series will be set and filmed in Albuquerque, but “Rhea will be playing a very different character than she played on Saul,” Gilligan notes. “It’s a whole different world. There’s no overlap that I can see. She’s playing a character who is not Kim Wexler, but hopefully people will roll with that.”

He added some storyline teases, too: “The world changes very abruptly in the first episode, and then it is quite different. It’s the modern world — the world we live in — but it changes very abruptly. And the consequences that that reaps hopefully provide drama for many, many episodes after that.”

The series was first announced in September 2022, with Apple TV+ handing it a two-season order. Gilligan, who created Breaking Bad and co-created the spinoff Saul, will serve as creator and showrunner. Seehorn wrapped up a six-season run last year as attorney Kim Wexler on Better Call Saul, earning two Emmy nominations for best supporting actress in a drama — including one at this year’s still-pending Emmys, which will be handed out Monday, Jan. 15 at 8/7 on Fox.
