'What a View': 'The Voice' winners Girl Named Tom to make stop at Lensic on Oct. 1

Sep. 29—The Liechty siblings have been on a crash course of the music industry over the past few years.

The trio, known as Girl Named Tom, made history when they won the 21st season of NBC's "The Voice" as the first group to win the singing competition.

Since then, Bekah, Joshua and Caleb, have been on a fast-moving train, only gaining more momentum.

Girl Named Tom recently released its latest single, "What a View," and is hitting the road with a plan to stop in Santa Fe at the Lensic Performing Arts Center on Sunday, Oct. 1.

"We wrote the song in March," Bekah Liechty says. "We started the band four years ago and life has been going at a different pace. The song is inspired by how fast time goes by the older we get. We tried to capture that in the song. It's a feeling of wonder and excitement that keeps us going. We can't remember everything that happens, so this song is a reminder to slow down and take it all in."

"It's almost bittersweet, and we want to capture it forever," Caleb Liechty chimes in. "The song is about trying to slow life down, which isn't happening."

Girl Named Tom's visit to Santa Fe won't be its first in New Mexico.

Joshua Liechty says during the band's minivan tour in 2019 and into early 2020, they played a church show in Albuquerque.

"We felt such a love for the city," he says. "We also got to head out on the musical highway and hear it for ourselves. We're looking forward to learning a lot more on this trip. New Mexico is a magical place for us."

Though the journey for Girl Named Tom sits at four years, the sibling trio has learned a lot in that time.

Joshua Liechty says the band had never tried writing with other people.

When the trio won "The Voice," they moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where they had a plethora of writers waiting in the wings.

"We found it really life giving to write music with other people," he says. "We have different tastes in music, and sometimes we think as one because we are siblings. When we're in a room with another person, we make some beautiful music."

While it's been a whirlwind for the trio, Joshua Leichty, says being on "The Voice," helped navigate a path for the trio.
