Meghan McCain is most definitely not amused by a not-so-cryptic suggestion made today by The View co-host Ana Navarro that an (unnamed) former co-host used her famous last name for influence – and the daughter of the late Senator John McCain says she’ll be consulting her lawyers.

Navarro’s comment came during a Hot Topics discussion about Hunter Biden. “Joe Biden’s crime is being Hunter Biden’s father,” Navarro said. “Look, did Hunter Biden influence peddle on his last name? Yes, he did. So did half of Washington — people sitting at this table did it.”

When the other co-hosts expressed shock, Navarro said, “I’m not talking about currently.”

The comment prompted laughter and a loud response from the other co-hosts. “We just wanted to clear our names!” said Alyssa Farah Griffin, while Sara Haines said, “I was like, ‘Oh my God, do I have a claim to fame that I’m not using?’”

An unsmiling Navarro said, “Can I please go back to my point now that we’ve finally caught on?,” to which moderator Whoopi Goldberg deadpanned, “Now that we’ve cleared it up, yeah. It took a while.”

McCain, the former View co-host, subsequently took to X/Twitter in a “you probably think this song is about you” manner to express outrage and threaten legal action.

“I don’t understand why my former colleagues @The View @ABC bring me up and slander me on an almost weekly basis,” she tweeted. “It has been years – move on, I have. I have never been accused of a crime in my life and am a patriotic American – I would never and have never ‘influenced peddled’ in my life, let alone with foreign adversaries. Not all politicians children are the same – and I am no Hunter Biden.

“All accusations are absurd, defamatory and slanderous. I will be consulting my lawyers regarding what was libeled against me on The View this morning.”

McCain later posted, “@TheView is an @ABC News program. I do not take it lightly when any news program suggests I engage in criminal behavior, especially as a former employee of ABC News.”

A spokesperson for the show declined to comment.
