Would 'The View' Host Abby Huntsman Have Been Fired if She Hadn't Left On Her Own?

Abby Huntsman announced that she would be leaving 'The View' on Monday January 13th, 2020. However, there is speculation as to whether that decision was made fully on her own accord. Fans have been expressing their dislike for Huntsman and fellow Republican co-host Meghan McCain. While her father did likely ask her to join on his campaign, Pop Culture reported that the network was already considering firing her before she decided to leave. A source had spoken to the Daily Mail about her fate.

"Abby was added to the show without chemistry-testing with the other women mainly because she had a prior relationship with Meghan McCain and ABC was desperate to make Meghan appear more likeable," the source told the Daily Mail explaining why they believed Huntsman wasn't a good fit for the show. "But it didn't take execs long to realize that Abby talked a lot, but she never really said anything. Her points and opinions never really landed with the audience because it often lacked substance."

Huntsman wrote a memo around the holidays announcing her departure.

"After much deliberation over the holidays, I have decided to leave the show to dedicate myself full-time in support of my dad and his campaign for Governor of Utah," Huntsman wrote in the memo. "You know I think the world of all of you... ABC will always hold a special place in my heart, and so will all of you."

Huntsman spoke highly of her time on 'The View' when announcing her exit.

"This is always such a hard thing to do," Huntsman said on 'The View.' "And especially this table because this is a really special table. The most iconic show I think on television and the smartest women that I've ever worked with. But today I'm saying goodbye."

ABC network executive Barbara Fedida revealed that there was no notion to fire Huntsman despite the accusations of the source. The speculation may never be resolved since she did leave on her own accord.

"From the moment Abby joined us a year and a half ago, we knew how important her big family is to her," a memo from the network read. "When your father asks you to help run your campaign, it's a hard one to say no to. We thank Abby for her unique, intelligent, insightful and relatable voice that she brought to the show both in front of and behind the camera. We will truly miss her and her great spirit professionally and personally."
