The View cohost Sunny Hostin has opened up about a car accident involving her son, Gabriel.

Hostin, the long-running talk show's legal expert, revealed that Gabriel, a 21-year-old junior at Harvard University, was recently struck by a moving vehicle while he was riding an electric skateboard in Cambridge, Mass.

"[My husband] Manny got the call first. Gabriel loves to get around Cambridge on his electric skateboard," Hostin told View executive producer Brian Teta on Thursday's episode of the Behind the Table podcast. "He got hit by a car, and he flew over the hood of the car, and because he was not wearing the helmet that I bought for him the only way to kind of protect his head was to land on his right shoulder, which he dislocated and we believe is somewhat fractured."

Hostin said her son comforted the woman who was driving the car that hit Gabriel, as "she was in shock" afterwards.

"She got out of the car and she was crying and she was shaking," Hostin said. "My son is pretty big — he's about 6'2. She was a very short woman. Apparently the police report says he enveloped her with his good arm and said, 'Don't worry, I'm going to be okay.'"

Hostin continued, "So, he's making the person that hit him feel better by saying he's going to be okay. He isn't okay. He's in a lot of pain. He doesn't really believe in pharma, pharmaceuticals, so he's taking turmeric supplements. I've tried to get him to take at least Advil. So he'll have, we think, a sling on for four to six weeks."

Though Hostin did not give an exact date of the car accident, the 54-year-old host considered missing the following day's broadcast of The View so she could tend to her son.

"I was like, 'My son got hit by a car. I may not come in tomorrow, but if he's okay, I'll be there. Bye,'" Hostin said with a laugh, recounting the email she sent to Teta informing him of the incident. "That was a bad email. I'm sorry!"

EW has reached out to representatives for The View and the Cambridge police department for more information.

In addition to Gabriel, Hostin and her husband have a daughter, Paloma, whom she regularly speaks about on the show.

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/PT on ABC.
