A fire caused The View co-hosts and staffers to evacuate their New York City studios — and no, it wasn't started by those hot topics.

Before going live on air on Wednesday, April 10, Whoopi Goldberg, Ana Navarro, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin were out on the streets as firemen responded to the emergency.

Goldberg explained all at the top of the show, after she and her colleagues walked out to Billy Joel's 1989 hit "We Didn't Start the Fire."

"This morning we had to evacuate the studio because there was a fire that we did not start," the EGOT winner, 68, explained, noting the fire originated next door at The Tamron Hall Show's studios. "We do not know who started it, we do not know what started it."

Backstage photos and videos then aired, captured during the commotion.

"It really made me understand my priorities, because once I saw all the hosts were fine, I was like, 'Where's my glam team?' " joked Farah Griffin, 34. "Like, leave [executive producer Brian Teta], but as long as hair and makeup is safe.'"

"Yes, it's really dangerous to seeing us on the street without hair and makeup," Behar, 81, added.

The conversation then turned to what the women grabbed on the way out, with Hostin, 55, admitting that she left her purse in her dressing room but grabbed her phone.

"I grabbed my purse," said Goldberg. "When that happens, as you're evacuating, you snatch up your [purse] cause that's your ID!"

Navarro, who lives in Miami and commutes in twice a week for the show, missed a chunk of the action. "I was coming in from the airport and there was a Hot Topics meeting so I pressed the Zoom link, thinking I would find all of you on the Zoom, and it was dark, empty, and alarm and flashing lights," the 52-year-old said. "I thought, 'Holy hell.' "

As for The Tamron Hall Show, that syndicated daytime series — which is taped live at 10 a.m. ET — aired a rerun after a live message from Hall.

"I know things look a little different around here," Hall said, while standing on set in front of a black screen. "We have had something that's never happened on the five seasons of The Tamron Hall Show."

She went on to explain that grease fire broken out in their kitchen before taping began. They were able to extinguish the fire before evacuating the building.

"Our team reacted in incredible time," said Hall, 53, noting that the entire staff is safe.

"We were in place, preparing for our live show today. The audience was in the holding area of the show, preparing to come out here and cheer and have a phenomenal show today. But as my friend Bevy Smith says, 'Sometimes live be life-ing,' and that happened to us today."

Hall thanked the firefighters for their help, and to the in-person audience for their support. "I'm going to fade to black but I'll be back here on our set live tomorrow," Hall promised.

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC. The Tamron Hall Show airs on the same network in syndication.
