'The View' Bashes Larry Wilmore's White House Correspondents' Dinner Performance: 'So Disrespectful'

Co-hosts of The View agreed with broad criticisms that have been lobbed at Larry Wilmore after the Nightly Show host’s routine at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday.

Monday’s show began with the ladies discussing the event, and for once they were mostly all in agreement, particularly on Wilmore’s decision to end his speech with “Yo, Barry, you did it, my nigga!”

“I personally don’t think it was the right way to go out,” said Michelle Collins. “I don’t think it was classy. I know you’re there to be funny, but it just wasn’t a nice way to end such a great night.”

Guest co-host Sunny Hostin agreed, and had even harsher words for Wilmore.

“I think using the N-word when you have the first black president of the United States sitting there, having enjoyed two terms of a presidency, was so disrespectful, was so inappropriate,” she said.

Whoopi Goldberg thought there was too much repetition and advises future emcees of the event to take their cues from the President, who goes first.

“To me it’s very important that you read the room and you read the material,” she said. “You should have known he did that material. You didn’t need to do that.”

Joy Behar came the closest to defending Willmore’s set, acknowledging Obama’s uncanny comedic skills and saying, “[Wilmore] is a comedian and as a comedian you don’t slam fellow comedians.”
