“The View”'s Ana Navarro celebrates arrest of politician who called her racial slur: 'Karma took her time'

The View's Ana Navarro is celebrating the recent arrest of Miami City Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla.

At the end of the show's Friday episode, cohost Joy Behar said the panel had a little less than a minute left in their broadcast in case anyone wanted to share exciting news ahead of the weekend.

"Oh, me," Navarro volunteered. "If we've got 45 seconds, I'm telling this story. So yesterday, the city of Miami commissioner got indicted — his name is Alex Diaz de la Portilla — for bribery and corruption."

The panelist, who lives in Florida, proceeded to detail a racist encounter that she said she once had with the government official. "That's a man who, 25 years ago, screamed racial slurs at me in a drunken tirade," Navarro said. "He called me an arrow-thrower, an Indian — I guess because I'm a Nicaraguan and he's a white Cuban."

"He's going to jail, and I'm on national TV talking about you," she continued, waving to the camera as the audience cheered. "Karma took her time, but she came by."

"Thanks, everybody, for coming," Behar replied as she concluded the episode. "My mother used to say: 'Don't spit up in the air. It comes back in your face.' We'll see you on Monday. Bye!"

Novarro previously reacted to Diaz de la Portilla's arrest in a social media post on Thursday.

"@alexDLPmiami's a thug," she wrote. "He was drunk at a political event many yrs ago, & started screaming racial slurs & calling me 'Indian' bc I'm from Nicaragua. He's a racist piece of [poop emoji] who thinks being a white Cuban made him superior. Today, he was arrested for a bunch of crimes."

Diaz de la Portilla, alongside attorney William W. Riley Jr., was arrested on multiple corruption charges on Thursday, including "one count of money laundering, three counts of unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior, one count of bribery, and one count of criminal conspiracy," the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said in a press release.

The politician, who assumed office in 2020, was also charged with four counts of official misconduct, one count of campaign contribution in excess of legal limits, and two counts of failure to report a gift.

During their investigation, Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents discovered that "Diaz de la Portilla and Riley Jr. accepted more than $15,000 in payments for Diaz de la Portilla's brother's Miami-Dade County Court judicial campaign but did not report them."

The release continued, "Further investigation determined Diaz de la Portilla also operated and controlled two political committees used not only to support his brother's campaign, but also for personal expenditures. Records showed that one of the committees reported total donations of approximately $2.3 million, and the other reported total donations of more than $800,000."
